Playbill: Book Design

Playbill was an assignment for my Typography class. The objective of this project is to create a sequenced story in the format of a booklet and work as a concept creator, a story teller, a writer, an editor, and a designer.

 OVERVIEW

On March 12th, 2020, Broadway was ordered to close its 41 playhouses at 5 p.m. due to covid-19, and thus began the shutdown that lasted over a year. 16 months without Broadway felt like an eternity. The pause on Broadway shows were a huge blow to the theater industry and its workers. The beating heart of midtown had stopped when it turned off its light, shattering many hearts with the darkness. Now after over a year without Broadway, many are rushing back to catch a year worth of missed shows.

The pandemic has showed me how lucky I am to live in a city with so much art and culture, and this book was made as a thanks to the talents and behind the scene workers who make each and every show possible.

All Playbill photographs in this book are from my personal Playbill collection and were taken by myself. These Playbills were collected over 21 years, ever since I was 5 years old.
